Figure Hold

This was a video art piece that I made for a friend’s public access show – “Mixed Signals” on BRIC. The theme of that particular show was body movement, and I wanted to focus on more minute movement systems. I had a access to a high speed camera, so I shot several takes of a hand doing simple motions at 700fps.

I then ran that footage through the same software that I had developed for Phantogram‘s live show. After collecting several takes of this computer vision montage, I quickly put all the clips together into something that felt like a cohesive arc. I usually have the music first, but this time I was just composing with the visuals first which felt very odd. Once I got the clips into a satisfying order, I had Mike Romeo develop some improvised sound design for the piece.
