In February 2016, Botany commissioned me to make a video for his track Ory (Joyous Toil) off his October 2016 album Deepak Verbera.
I used an Edgertronic High Speed camera with a macro lens attachment and played with a lot of water/flour combinations and effects in a large clear water basin.
The song itself is unlike a lot of other tracks I’ve made music videos for because it doesn’t have a set rhythm to it. The track is slow and unfolds into its different sections without defined breaks. I wanted to smoothly transition between visual sections with long crossfades. Sometimes my process with music videos is to come close to overworking the footage with the music, but everything for this video came together really quickly and naturally after I shot a lot of test footage. The water and flour combinations start to evoke a kind of cosmic creation story that climaxes towards the end.
